Because of its city-named spinoffs many call the show CSI Las Vegas but its real title is CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and is one of the most popular television shows on.
Before the 2004-5 season s George Eads and Jorja Fox were fired, Eads for not appearing for shooting, and Fox for not reporting that she would be available for shooting. CBS felt both were trying to vie for new contracts since the series had become very successful. Both were re-hired without a new contract. Eads stated he simply overslept, and Fox claimed she did not know about the requirment to submit a letter of intent.
CSI's first home was Friday night, but after it became apparent the show was a hit it was moved to Thursday nights to compete with NBC's Friends. On Thursday's CSI was able to maintain its viewers. After Friends went off-the-air CSI increased in the ratings.
Besides being a hit show, CSI is behind the increase in applications to colleges in the field of forensic science. The term CSI effect has also been coined to describe it's affects on our court system. Since the fictional CSI team is often able to find proof of guilt in seemingly impossible situations, jurors often expect real-life forensic scientists (who don't have nearly the budget of the CSI team apparently has, and CSI's writers take creative privileges) to be able to do the same. This burdens prosecutors and defenders alike.
